Master National Meetings – Mandatory Handler's Meeting

The Handlers gathered again in the gymnasium at Coker College for the Mandatory Handler's meeting at 1 pm. There was a large crowd assembled to hear President Sam Ferguson's welcome. Below is some of the information that was presented:

The ten judges stood on the podium. Bruce Bachert was their representative who gave the instructions to the handlers:
1. Know and follow the rules
2. Gun Safety: Both hands on the gun an shoulder the gun for marks
3. If you have to handle on a mark, handle all the way to the bird.
4. Challenge the line to the blind
5. NO intimidation of your dog
6. Handler must stand upright by the dog for the marks
7. Do not point out the gun stations
8. Handler is to stay in place; the dog must be at heel
9. NO CELL PHONES
10. And … try and have a good time!

Flight D is starting with #23 because #22 failed the bitch check, so Noah Spitzer was called to the podium to receive his starting dog hat. Frank Barton cautioned that if any dog #22 received a no bird tomorrow, they would have to give their hat to the next person in line.

Note: There is no hunting license required by gunners to shoot a live gun because they are covered under the event permit the Master National received a permit from the state to run this event.

Rules for no birds: If the dog does not see the no bird, they are to go back to the holding blind and come right back out. For a regular no bird:
First: go back three spots
Second: go back six spots
Third: you go to the end and stay there the balance of the week

After the Mandatory Handler’s meeting, Sam Furgeson strongly encouraged the people who had not signed up to work at this event to meet at the designated locations in the gym to join a committee.
